Promoting Innovations in Regional Cooperation and Integration in the Aftermath of COVID-19 

 

Undertake the preparation of a scoping study for trialling innovative tourism ‘building back better’ approaches based on the recommendations of ADB studies recently published, concerning sustainable tourism after COVID-19 and develop project concepts for five tourism projects across Asia-Pacific Region.  

 

Kyrgyz Republic: Issyk-Kul Environmental Management and Sustainable Tourism Development Project

Supporting the development of 'green' tourism infrastructure of Issyk-Kul Cholpon-Ata cluster. Formulating and refining infrastructure investments to support sustainable tourism activities within the Issyk-Kul Biosphere Reserve. Activities to conserve regional archaeological and cultural heritage and reconstruct museums and visitor centres. Preparing 'green infrastructure' investments and non motorised schemes for improving environment and social conditions within the urban centre for visitors and residents.

China: Ecological Comprehensive Management Project in Baishui County Shaanxi Province

Preparing concepts and models for sustainable forest-landscape restoration and implementation proposals. Formulate ecotourism infrastructure investment plan for forest parks in Baishui.

China: China’s Protected Area Reform for Conserving Globally Significant Biodiversity Project

Providing international best practice expertise in the areas of protected area planning and management and ecotourism for the formation of the Giant Panda National Park, Three Rivers National Park, Xianju National Park and Qinghai Lake.

 

China: Preparing the Silk Road Ecological Protection and Rehabilitation Project 

Preparing proposals for the development of wide-ranging tourism attractions located along the Silk Road.  Designs for urban recreation forest parks. Site carrying capacity methodologies.

 

Laos: Sustainable Forest and Land Management in the Dry Dipterocarp Forest Ecosystems of Southern Laos

Developing ecotourism livelihoods to support habitat and wildlife conservation of red book species.

 

Niue: Application of Ridge to Reef Concept for Biodiversity Conservation and for the Enhancement of Ecosystem Service and Cultural Heritage in Niue

Tourism carrying capacity study for Niue based on limits of acceptable use methodology.

 

Sri Lanka: North East Coastal Community Development Project – Coastal Resource Planning

Post tsunami and post conflict development planning. Tourism master plan for North and East Provinces. Identification of tourism infrastructure development needs and preparation of investment proposals.

 

Zanzibar: Tourism Management Plan

Preparation of tourism master plan for Zanzibar. Sustainable resort planning, tourism marketing.

 

Mauritius: Tourism Master Plan

Carrying capacity study for Rodriques. Coastal zone and landscape planning guidelines for tourism resort development. Protected area ecotourism planning.

 

India: Mainstreaming Coastal and Marine Biodiversity into Production Sectors of Sindhudurg District

Develop opportunities for integrating tourism development to support terrestrial and marine conservation, visitor centre planning, village tourism planning.

 

China: Qinling Mountains Integrated Ecosystem Management Project

Project preparation for worlds largest botanic garden, panda rescue and wildlife exhibition area, hot springs hotel complex. ​

Ecological and tourism master planning. Evaluation of war damage to skiing facilities (1984 Olympics infrastructure), trans-boundary peace park proposals. Community livelihood and ecotourism planning.
